Tangerine Peel

Mint

A natural hybrid of spearmint (Mentha spicata) and wild mint (Mentha aquatica). It is named after the Greek nymph Minthe. The leaves and stems of mint contain essential oils (menthol, menthone, and limonene) that give it its intense aroma and taste. Mint is known for its aromatic properties, while its essential oils are used in the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. Fresh mint leaves contain β-carotene, vitamin E and C. Its dried leaves are best known for their trace elements such as magnesium, manganese, zinc, and copper. There have been several pieces of research regarding mint’s soothing properties and its beneficial effect on mood and cognitive function.

Matcha

Matcha tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, similar to green tea; however, it is processed differently. The name Matcha is derived from combining two Japanese words (Matsu + cha = to rub + tea) describing how the tea would be prepared. Matcha is known for its plethora of antioxidants, including polyphenols called catechins, containing epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Matcha has been shown to have the highest amount of EGCG, which has protective effects against cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and obesity. Catechins are also known to promote weight loss and boost metabolism. Matcha has also been excellent for daily stress as it induces a clear and alert mind with greater focus.

Mandarin Peel

Tangerines are a type of mandarin; the oldest hybrid fruits -a cross between a mandarin orange and a bitter orange- and the second-largest cultivated citrus fruit after oranges. In ancient times, tangerines were highly valued because they had a unique taste and a loose rind, making them easy to peel. The peel contains tangeretin, a super-flavonoid that studies have shown is an effective way to lower cholesterol. Tangerine peel also improves digestion and eases intestinal discomfort, such as gas and bloating.
